Selfishness

Can anybody tell me a single human action that doesn’t originate from selfishness? (Do you remember that episode of Friends where Joey was trying to show Fibie whatever she does comes from her selfishness?) I believe whatever we do is for us. The difference between human reactions comes from different wishes and desires.

A close friend of mine was blaming us (herself and me) for not going back and serving our country. Hey, I am selfish! You are selfish! I do whatever “I” see is right for “me”. You do whatever “you” see is right for “you”. But you know what; the one who goes back and serves his country is selfish too. (Don’t you know that God (the source of power or whatever you want to name it) is selfish too and that’s why he created us?) We were all selfish, we are all selfish, and we will be all selfish. The difference between us is that different things satisfy us…

Once I asked a Korean friend of mine, who doesn’t know much a bout the concept of worshiping and sacrificing, why she doesn’t steal when she absolutely knows nobody is going to catch her. She just said: “To some degree I experienced whatever I do would return back to me”. It was so interesting for me to hear this from her; an absolute selfishness.
